The esthetic industry has incorporated various exfoliation materials. Let’s start from the beginning, crystals were introduced in Europe in the 80s and then became popular in the United States in the 90s. Soon after it was the most sought-after treatment for decades. Still very popular today.

However, the microdermabrasion then versus now is quite different. Back in the mid-80s early 90s, microdermabrasion machines were built with an additional pedal. Yes, the pedal was used for skin revision, acne scarring, deep lines, or wrinkles. It would actually bring blood to the surface and cause pinpoint bleeding.

However, if performed incorrectly the skin could have additional scarring because of the depth of the tool crossing over the papillary dermis into the dermis. Many pigment variations, where the skin would lose pigment due to deeper trauma to the lower layer cells. It could leave the client using camouflage makeup for a lifetime.

Crystal microdermabrasion took the place of cosmetic procedure dermabrasion. It has lasted the longest of all microdermabrasions in the esthetic industry today. Hands down it is the most therapeutic action of all other microdermabrasions. The actual communication to the lower layers of the skin is immediate. Nothing beats it for skin results.
