Introducing TrueSource: Pre-Owned Aesthetic Equipment You Can Trust

Aesthetic equipment can be one of the largest investments your practice makes. The right device can expand your treatment menu and create a strong new revenue stream—but only when the equipment, price, and support all make sense for your practice.

That’s why we created TrueSource Pre-Owned.

What Is TrueSource Pre-Owned?

TrueSource is Medical Spa Supply's pre-owned aesthetic equipment program — the same consultative equipment planning, delivery coordination, training resources, and after-sale support you already get from us, extended into the pre-owned market.

The pre-owned market can be difficult to navigate. Listings may be incomplete, equipment histories may be unclear, and the person selling the device may never have physically inspected it. A device that powers on is not necessarily ready for use, and terms such as used, pre-owned, and refurbished do not always mean the same thing.

TrueSource brings greater clarity to the process. We source through vetted channels, evaluate each device, disclose its condition, verify serial numbers whenever possible, and provide warranty protection on pre-owned equipment. We also help coordinate delivery, installation, training resources, and ongoing support.

Why Practices Choose Pre-Owned Equipment

Buying pre-owned does not have to mean settling for less. For the right practice, it can be a smart way to grow while protecting cash flow.

Pre-owned equipment may help you:

  • Preserve capital for staffing, marketing, buildout, and other operating expenses
  • Add another treatment room without the cost of a second new platform
  • Introduce a new treatment category with less financial exposure
  • Equip an additional location while maintaining healthier cash flow
  • Reach break-even with fewer completed treatments

The real question is not simply whether to buy new or pre-owned. It is whether the device is appropriate for your treatment goals, supportable over time, and financially realistic for your practice.

What Makes TrueSource Different?

Anyone can list a used laser. The harder part is answering the questions that determine whether it is a sound investment:

  • What is the exact model, manufacturing year, and serial number?
  • Which handpieces, applicators, filters, and accessories are included?
  • Is the service and maintenance history available?
  • How was the device evaluated before being listed?
  • Is warranty coverage included, and what does it cover?
  • Are parts and qualified service still available?
  • Who coordinates transportation, delivery, and installation?
  • What support is available after the sale?

In a future guide, we’ll break down each of these questions—along with the warning signs to watch for when evaluating any pre-owned equipment seller.

The Math Behind the Decision

Purchase price is only one part of the investment. What matters is the total cost of launching the service — and how many treatments it may take to recover that amount.

New device Pre-owned (TrueSource)
Device $135,000 $65,000
Transportation, installation, and training $1,500 $1,500
Launch marketing $5,000 $5,000
Total launch investment $141,500 $71,500
Contribution margin per treatment $550 $550
Treatments to recover the investment ~258 ~130

Same service. Same pricing. Same margin. The only variable is the device — and it moves the break-even point by roughly 130 treatments, before financing expenses, overhead, and taxes.

A new device can still be the right call, whether for newer features, a full factory warranty, or manufacturer-backed training. The point is that the numbers belong in the decision.

This is an illustration, not a projection or promise. Every practice should run the numbers using its own pricing, treatment costs, expected demand, and operating expenses.

Financing is also available through Medical Spa Supply to help spread the cost over time, subject to approval. Explore financing options.

Recognizable Names, Important Differences

Candela GentleMax Pro. Sciton JOULE. Cutera Xeo. Alma Harmony XL PRO. Lumenis M22. Morpheus8. These are platforms your patients may already recognize — but two units with the same name on the cabinet can be very different investments depending on model year, included handpieces, software, and service history.

In an upcoming guide, we’ll take a closer look at ten popular pre-owned aesthetic lasers and devices, including what to look for and what to verify before buying.

More Guidance Is Coming

TrueSource is more than a collection of available devices. It is a resource for practices considering pre-owned equipment as part of their growth strategy.

Starting this month, we’ll continue sharing platform spotlights, practical acquisition guidance, and real-world financial considerations to help you decide when pre-owned equipment makes sense—and when it may not.
